Sign Agreement for SEI Certification Testing

McLean, VA . . . July 5, 2000 . . . . . The Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) is pleased to announce that its seven member Board of Directors has unanimously voted to award a contract to Midwest Testing Laboratories, Inc. of Troy, MI to conduct testing of emergency eyewash and safety showers and fall protection components for the SEI certification program. Products tested are.

SEI conducted a search for a laboratory with full capabilities to test emergency eyewash products and safety showers to the ANSI Z 358.1 performance standard, and components used in fall protection equipment to the requirements stated in the ANSI Z 359.1 performance standard. SEI is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a certification organization for safety and protective equipment. Additionally, SEI is in the final stages of completing requirements of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) to be accredited as a certification body for safety and protective equipment. When the SCC accreditation is issued, SEI will be a recognized certification agency in Canada and will certify products to Canadian standards.

SEI selected Midwest Testing Laboratories, Inc. - www.midwesttesting.com - because of their extensive experience in performance testing and their state-of-the art laboratory. Midwest Testing Laboratories, Inc. has thoroughly trained personnel to operate all equipment to determine a product’s compliance to the following standards: ANSI Z 358.1, and ANSI Z 359.1 for the SEI certification program. Midwest Testing Laboratories, Inc. successfully passed a comprehensive audit conducted by SEI to ISO Guide 25, and is accredited by the world recognized American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA).

For a manufacturer to claim SEI certification of their emergency eyewash units and safety showers, compliance testing shall be conducted by Midwest Testing Laboratories, Inc. Additionally, manufacturers who participate in the SEI certification program must pass a rigorous quality assurance audit of their manufacturing facility. Also, all products carrying the SEI label are required to be re-certified annually. This means that all products must be re-tested annually, and the manufacturing facility must continue to successfully meet all SEI quality assurance requirements during the follow-up audits.

Midwest Testing Laboratories, Inc. has also been awarded a contract to conduct component testing for SEI’s industrial fall protection equipment certification program. Midwest Testing Laboratories, Inc. will assist SEI by conducting Tensile strength, Hardness and Salt Spray on elements of the industrial harness such as buckles, adjusters, snaphooks, carabiners, d-rings, o-rings and oval rings.
